(This entry got a bit long. Apologies for the stream of consciousness.)

Watching the Book of Eli on the plane to Vancouver.

God, Hollywood RUINED this movie. They must have; there's great material, even if realistic depictions of post-apocalyptic life is rather crudely meshed with overblown action scenes. And of course, one lone wanderer trekking the landscape with a mysterious mission can't suffice for the public audiences; no, he needs a love interest, some babe who he can teach about the ways of the world and the holy book he's carrying with him!

I hate this movie because it's the most insidious kind - it draws you in with a compelling hook, a barren landscape with new rules to it and a stunningly acted warrior-poet, and then we get these tired, boring, disgusting tropes added to it, from the cardboard cut-out bad guy to the endless droves of hairy cannon fodder for the protagonist to carve up. The only salvation I have is to write about it before it drives me insane.

Never mind that it has to be the Bible of all things that is the saviour for a new age... yippie kay yay, America! Thank god the Qu'ran or the book of Taoism isn't there to tarnish your pure values in an age you supposedly brought about through deadly weaponry - at least, in this fictional universe.

I really want to disown these kinds of movies. From my life.

Anyway.

Going to be a long plane ride, but at least this time I have a power outlet. I can have some time to do games, read, reflect, think about tomorrow. Think about next week.

Think about school...

This movie is dumb. Waiting for the payoff, the big action scene where the lone wanderer beats up the bad guys and delivers justice, or whatever. Despite the artistic vision, the movie's fast losing its integrity with its insipid characterization. I'm done with caring about what happens, I just want more of what lies beyond the words and the "story". Anything else I can just ignore and go back to my own thoughts.

...Actually, the ending's pretty good. How about that.

Anyway, signing off.

I really enjoyed this movie. I saw it more as saving the knowledge of humanity, there were a lot of books there at the end, not just the Bible.

True, but like most movies, I just suspended my disbelief and managed to enjoy it. That doesn't always work for me though.
